A strawbale Gardens Journey.

Hello. I ordered four Strawbales from my local farm shop. They duly arrived Monday. I shifted them into position. There is a right and a wrong way to site bales. The rough side that has been cut by the Bailing Machine is the planting side. If you look at the picture below, the far edge of the strawbales will have poles for tomatos. These will be secured to the blue hoops for extra support. The left hand side will be home to some runner beans, on the surface of the strawbales I will plant bush tomatoes. And right at the fromt I will have two marrow plants. Do not be afraid to use all the strawbale. The strawbales look bear at the moment, a blank canvas, but In a few months I hope to have the bales overflowing with tasty vegetables. It is day two of the maturing process. This is a seventeen day period where I add water and a nitrogen based feed in varying quantities. By this time the Starwbales will be ready to plant and or sow into.

A strawbale being “matured”.

I have personal favourite varieties that I have used many time on my strawbale gardening journey. Tomatoes it has to be Knockout. Runner beans Lady Di or Enorma, and for marrows the lovely Bush Baby. I will be keeping you up to date with my progress in future blog posts. For the full info on Strawbale Gardening go here. For my seeds page hit here
